What are the benfits and negative aspects of an organisation posting information across a number of different social media platforms?

Let us start with the benefits.

One of the main benefits is you would be reaching a wider audience, everyone uses social media differently so the more sites you have information on the more people you reach. Along with this I would say that a great benefit would be you can target the material and language you use based of the social media platform you are using, so for example what you put on twitter is quick update of things that are happening now or in the very near future, whereas something like Pinterest may have photos and info on past event. So in saying all this you can tailor the language and information to best suit the platform which in turn tailors the information for the platform user, who is the client.

Negative Aspects?

Well the main thing would be doubling up for some clients, some people use numerous social media platform and being updated with the same information numerous times could be annoying I guess, however I think that this is the case with nearly all companies that use social media sites so these particular people would be use to this. I really think in this particular circumstance, it is better to have to much information than not enough. The other thing I guess that could be worrying would be keeping the information the same on all the sites, even though the information can be worded and written different based on the social media platform you are updating, the key details need to be the same, so making sure everything is consistent on all the sites, (in lots of case this will not be an issue because on some social media websites when you update one platform all the platforms update).

So after thinking about all this, I would say that the benefit of using multiple social media platforms to reach clients would out way the negative aspects.
