Finding a library related organisation who uses multiple social media...

I have found a library related website that uses multiple social media platforms to communicate with their user, the people who use and or frequent the library. The website that I have found is The State Library in Melbourne, see below...

State Library of Victoria

The website allows you to connect to the to the library via numerous social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs, Google Plus.
Blogs are stored under a section called "From the Community", this has links for related services that may not necessarily be directly from the library but patrons may be interested in or enjoy. In saying that, some of the blogs are run by the State Library.
Some example of these blogs that can be found through the State Library website below

TWITTER

Tweet, tweet...

This has more specific daily, up to the minute information than can be found on the actual website, I think that this would suit the younger, more up to date user, you see specific information about what's on and when and then if you want to look into this further or a particular tweet takes your fancy, all you need to do is click on the link which 9 times out of 10 is provided.

 FACEBOOK

I like.

A lot of the information that you can view via twitter can be viewed on Facebook, it looks different for the obvious reason that it is a different platform so it is set out different, more picture instead of links and a lot of thumbnail pictures under links on Facey B. I personally think it is set out a bit livelier and fun than on Twitter, but the fundamental information is the same on Twitter and Facebook. (On a side note, when you go onto the Facebook page you can see a link to follow the library on Instagram. The hippest of the social media platform right now)

FLICKR

?????

The State Library also includes a Flickr: feed (?) not sure if that's what you call it. I am not up with the kids so I have never seen this before, I checked it out and it seems to be just really cool old pictures, so I am guessing that this is in line with Pinterest (?). It is totally different to anything else on the website and I really enjoyed browsing this. Some amazing vintage pictures that are great. I think that this is a great add on to the website.

YOU TUBE

watch me....

The site has a YouTube channel; this again contains different content than from the main website and seems to be unique to this platform. It includes little episodes of programs such as 'Library Life', 'Discover the Library' and so on.

So what have we discovered here? I think that the library has done a fantastic job getting information across to different people based on the social media platform they use and or like the best, quick snappy burst of info for the twitter crowd, pictures, links and fun galore for the Facebook followers, longer more 'educational', perhaps even more grown up info for the Youtubers and a visual feast of vintage fun for the Flickr folk. These platform don't feel disjointed or out of place on the website, but could stand alone of you were using one of these platforms individually. Some contained overlapping information, but I think that in the few cases that this happened it was needed and would not be overly annoying to someone who was a slave to multiple social media platforms.
