My Top 5 Library Related Websites.

My top 5 Library Related Websites are as follows....

New York Public Library.
This is my all-time favourite library website. The libraries in New York are amazing(!!!!) and it is one of my long term goals is to work at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building in Manhattan in the research collection section of the public library (very specific goal I know) which is vast and extraordinarily wonderful. You can do a lot of things on the website even though the actual library is in a different country, but if you happen to be in New York you can view the calendar activities and browse all the upcoming events, this is fantastic for visitors to the city also. My favourite aspect of the website is the librarians recommendation section, this has book recommendations from the librarians (obviously) and it include a summary of the book, description and full record, you can even rate the book yourself if you so desired.

National Film and Sound Archives.
This is a great website. Film is one of my passions so I find this site informative and interesting. It has information about the library itself. It also has information about free services and activities available for the community, (in particular students), information for people in rural areas to get access to movies (traveling film festival  called ‘BIG SCREEN’, which screens new and also archived Australian movies) A heap of really interesting things can be accessed. You can search the collection, view the online calendar of upcoming events, you can also sign up quickly and easily for the newsletter. It also includes a glossary and preservation information.  Links to explore the NFSA other online sites Facebook, Blogs, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube channels. The site is set out very easy to use and follow and the layout looks classy and clean.

The State Library of Victoria.
This is probably the best of the Victorian library website. As the actual library is located in the Melbourne CBD so a lot of the information is relevant to visitors of Melbourne and people who visit the city regularly. Calender and up to date info of events and activities is available on the site (a lot of things are free) The site has links to connect to the library using various other social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, so you can follow the library on the social media site of your choosing. The site also includes links to individual blogs from the community on specialized subjects such as The Art Blog, The Family Matters Blog and Inside a Dog residence blog page. On the site you can search the catalogue, it also highlight the strengths in the collection and what they collects. You can access a lot of galleries and the collections can be viewed online o you can browse through the  collections whenever you want in the comfort of your own home. The websites is really easy to use and navigate, I feel that this is one of the main requirements for a public library website-that is be user friendly, some the community can use easily and efficiently. The only downside that I find on the website is the colouring, the main colour is white that is accented by red, and it looks a little boring (I think that this could be spruced up a bit).

Collections Australia Network.
Australian cultural and heritage collections online.
This is the website for the searching particular collections and organisations online. It contains search tools for both of these. You can view details on exhibition on all throughout Australia and also what kind of sector you want to search, whether this be archive, cultural, heritage, museum, library and so on. The website itself is quite dull looking and would not be interesting to browse randomly, however if you are searching for a particular collection or exhibition it is easy and handy to use.

Melbourne Library Service.
This is also a great website for fellow Melbournians. It has a link to upcoming events and what's on within the Melbourne library service. A 'Good Reads' section which contains links to book clubs, and recommendation section which is great for people like me who are obsessed with book lists and recommendations. Links to the individual library sites also available. One of the best things on this website is the efilm section where you can stream documentaries and art-house films. The site is simple to use and includes links to follow them via other social media platforms. The colours that are used are simple and pleasant to view. The website is perfect for the community to use, suitable for all ages and computer abilities. I think this is a perfect example of an effective and user friendly library related website.
